ABOUT
Hi, I’m Eli! A globally minded food writer and photographer with a strong passion for showing the stories behind what we eat
I am from Barcelona, Spain and after living in different countries I became dedicated to show the beauty of the world through food, both visually and in written form.
With my photography, the viewer is engaged and connected having a greater consideration for the cooks, the bartenders, the artisans, the farmers and everyone that helps put delicious and nourishing food on their plate. I create and style unique food images in my studio as well as on location. I also adore documenting producers, artisans and showing the importance of being part of your community.
I recently recieved my second Master’s Degree in Gastronomic Journalism and Communication so I feel very empowered to help you in multiple ways! I am passionate about storytelling, art, design, plants and about the importance of eating seasonally and locally.
My Story
Born near Barcelona (Spain) by the Mediterranean sea, food was always one of the most important topics in everyday life. More so in my family, that had a well-stablished restaurant in the city based on seasonal produce. For me food and cooking was so part of my life that I didn’t give it a second thought until I rediscovered my interest in gastronomy through the lens of anthropology and culture during my early travels.
After finishing my BA in Humanities and MA in Primatology in a very interdisciplinary scholar journey, I started travelling far and wide. I have lived and worked in: Spain, Italy, Tanzania, China, Thailand, Hungary and lately I recently moved to USA. All these places have given me a deep appreciation for the diversity of cultures and perspectives in the world. And I realized I wanted to tell their stories through food.
Throughout my 5 years in Asia I started my own journalistic project called Canela Limón Chile where I researched the global connections between ingredients in national dishes around the world. Since then, I have interviewed and photographed farmers, producers, restaurants, wineries, cheese makers and artisans from all around the world. And in 2021, I was invited to give a lecture in Harvard University about the history of Spanish dishes and ingredients.
During the pandemic, as I couldn’t travel, I decided to give photography a more serious consideration, and I learned with some of the best food photographers and stylists relizing the craft is much more than just pressing the shutter. I am now constantly paying attention to the light, the colors, the textures and collecting compulsively ceramics and baskets from everywhere I go!
Since moving to Boston, Massachusetts, I started an online publication on Substack where I share photography tips, recipes, original photographs and essays about the dishes and ingredients of New England. It’s called My Cup of Tea, and it has been recomended by writers of the like of Alicia Kennedy, Nicholas Gill and Lisa Abend.
Even if I don’t know where life is going to take me next, I am really enjoying this chapter here in New England. I love the history of the place, the producers, the farmers markets, the feel of the students and the soft light all around. I want to keep on learning about New England’s food culture and possibly eat (and photograph) more oysters and lobsters than ever before!
Since 2021 I have been helping food brands and producers attract more customers through an impactful visual storytelling that comunicates their brand vision and ethics.
On 2023 I received my second Master’s Degree in Gastronomic Journalism and Communication by the prestigious Basque Culinary Center. Not only I got to spend a fantastic period in the gastronomic Spanish city of San Sebastián, but also I gained a lot more expertise in how to tell stories effectively.
I now apply my knowledge both in my journalistic pieces and helping brands communicate their messages and values through strong photographs, beautifully crafted graphic design, cohesive social media channels and well-thought captions that align with their values.
Whether you want to share your brand’s story, give new life to your social media presence, or update your digital marketing, I can provide some guidance!
